“Les Francais au Fort”

The French at the Fort


Celebrate “Les Francais au Fort” on Saturday, July 27 from 3 p.m. till 7 p.m. at Fort Mifflin!

Meet members of the Regiment Gatinais, a unit that served with Continental forces during the American Revolution, enjoy a display of historic French fashions, and even visit with Thomas Jefferson himself! (5 p.m. till 6 p.m.) Jefferson served as Minister to France from 1785 until 1789 and his love of French food and wine is well established. Join him in a French wine tasting or enjoy crepes with ice cream, a cheese plate or a cup of Paris Punch!

Join in “Petite Ecole” with Madame Karine and learn some simple French through song and dance. Check out The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Casemate Cinema or pose for your portrait with our visiting artists!

Enjoy special black powder demonstrations featuring Dr. Benjamin Franklin and his wall gun along with musket and cannon fire! France was a leader in the technology of black powder production, brought to this area by E.I. DuPont in the early 19th century.

Special contests! Bring your best home-made quiche to enter the Quiche Contest (judging at 5 p.m.) or reserve a table in our riverfront picnic area to enter the Pique- nique Contest” (judging at 6 p.m.) where creative table setting with French flair will be rewarded. Prizes to the winners!

This unique event celebrates history, culture and friendship. Vive le Fort! Additional fees apply for food, wine and portraits – all other activities are included with your admission. General Admission $15; $10 Seniors, Veterans, Students 12 and under. Tickets available online or at the event entrance.

Contest details:

  •   Quiche Contest – Bring a baked quiche in a disposable pan to designated table

    in Soldier’s Barracks. Judging at 5 p.m. with prize awarded immediately after.

    Slices of quiche available for purchase after judging.

  •   Pique-nique Contest – Reserve a table in our riverfront picnic area by sending an

    email to or calling the office at 215-685-4167. Judging at 6 p.m. with prize awarded immediately after.
